How the days between dates are counted
Both dates are treated as calendar days, so time zones and daylight saving time do not affect the result. The difference is also broken down into years, months and days, weeks and hours. Business days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and US federal holidays (on their observed dates).
Examples
- January 1 to December 31 of the same year: 364 days, or 365 counting both dates (366 in a leap year).
- 90 days from today: use the date calculator to add days instead.
- Days until a holiday: the countdown shows a live timer to the minute.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the start date from the end date. January 1 to January 31 is 30 days; if you count both the first and last day it is 31. Tick "Include the end date" to add that extra day.
Should I include the end date?
Not when you want elapsed time. Include it when counting how many calendar days an event or vacation covers, where both the first and last day count: July 10–14 is 5 days.
Does the calculator handle leap years?
Yes. February 29 is counted in leap years such as 2024 and 2028; century years not divisible by 400 (like 1900) are not leap years.
How many business days are in the range?
The result shows business days with weekends and US federal holidays removed, counting both dates. For deadlines and more options use the business day calculator.
