What is inductance?

Inductance measures how much voltage is induced when current changes over time. A larger inductance produces a stronger opposition to rapid current change.

This effect is central to coils, chokes, transformers and many energy-conversion circuits.

Henries, millihenries and microhenries

One millihenry equals 0.001 henry, and one microhenry equals 0.000001 henry. These scaled units are far more practical for most real inductors.

Small signal and RF inductors often use microhenries, while larger coils and some filters may be expressed in millihenries.
